St Helens is my home town. This is the first time I've been shooting street that I've collected so many frowns and hard looks. Nearly all the folk I shot today were verging on hostile towards the camera. As a side note, St Helens is reported to be the 2nd Most Friendly Town in England. Closing Down 9

Kismet is a queer thing. I was just wrapping up for the evening when I saw this chap across the road. I asked to shoot his tats. OK but not his face, he said. It was extremely bright and I couldn't make out the shape amongst all the red ink. It wasn't until I processed the file that I saw it was a face burning in Hell. An interesting coincidence when I think that this essay is about the consequences of the Banking Crisis. You couldn't make this up. Truly life is stranger than fiction. Closing Down

All that's left, just about, of the coal mining in Merseyside. It's believed that St Helens' first deep mines were sunk over 500 years ago. There's still coal, lots of it, but no one wants to mine it. And they say there's an energy crisis: Great Britain has at least 300 years of coal reserves. Long Live the Workers!

St Helens Chess Club is one of the best in the North West, yet there are very, very few young players. Despite their best efforts to promote this most cerebral of all games, local primary schools have not been interested. Good Mates
